DISTRICT BADGE

The John Oxley District Badge was introduced after the amalgamation of the John Oxley and Tarcoola Districts in May 1988.

The badge was designed to honour the explorer Lt John Oxley who sailed up the Brisbane River on 3-4 December 1823. During the voyage he landed at many points which are now included in our District.

Lt John Oxley was a remarkable man of great courage, ability, determination and leadership. He was truly a man to inspire the adventurous spirit of all members of the Scouting Movement.

The Green Background - the countryside which John Oxley reported as good farming land.

The Drawn Sword - Lt John Oxley wore his sword with honour. The sword is drawn as we, like Lt John Oxley are prepared to meet any challenge.

The Blue River - the Brisbane River which Lt John Oxley explored in 1823 and is the main geographical feature that links the Groups in our District.

The Circle of Stones - the aboriginal bora ring which was located near the Brisbane River at Chelmer and was significant to Tarcoola District.

The Eight Red Stones - the eight Groups of the past Tarcoola District (1970 - 1988).

The World Badge - emphasises that we are all members of the World Brotherhood of Scouting.

The badge depicts the reaches of the Brisbane River forming the northern boundary of the John Oxley District
